Working to Save Your
Tax Dollars
1. Judge Ballinger has established
a Court Assistant Fund, which pays for interpreters and for services for victims
of crime relieving the taxpayers of those costs.
2. She is holding offenders
financially responsible for the services they receive from the courts. They are
now charged a probation fee for their probation services. These monies help pay
for probation officers thus relieving the taxpayers of this burden.
3. Judge Ballinger
established a new policy that drunk driving offenders must pay their local fines
and costs before they get driving privileges. This brings revenue directly into
Marion.
4. Municipal Court
and the Ohio State Highway Patrol have jointly purchased a visa/mastercard
terminal so as to enable troopers to take payments at the site of a traffic stop
for waivers and bonds.
5. Judge Ballinger has
reduced daily costs of magistrates and the number of magistrate hours used in
municipal court.
6. Municipal Court has
implemented a collections program to retrieve outstanding fines and court costs.
7. Finally, Judge Ballinger
will have a clerk retiring at the end of October. The remaining 8 clerks are
taking steps to share responsibilities thus eliminating the need to fill this
position. This $30,000 to $40,000 savings can be used by the city to put
another police officer or fire fighter on the street.
