Introduction

Welcome to my family tree web site. This site represents some of my progress so far in researching my family tree - family history and genealogy is always an ongoing process.

The latest thing I'm doing with the family history is to set up a wiki at http://haberecht.pbwiki.com/ The reason I've done this is so that there's somewhere that anybody who wants to can easily contribute stories, images, anything they want to about the family. Check it out and add something, or correct what somebody else has put up if you think it's wrong!

Last year I put together a gallery of Rosser family photos. What I thought would be quite simple took much longer, but the effort was worth the result. I hope family members and others enjoy the photos.

In previous updates, I added material mainly from the Modistach side of the family, and an "Orphans" page, where I've identified a couple of groups of Haberecht individuals for whom I have no connection to the rest of the Haberechts. If anyone knows of a link, please let me know.

Much of the information about Simon Modistach (Szymon Młodystach), his parents and descendants, comes from "Młodystach: A Family History of Polish Pioneers" published in 1985 by the Modistach Family Book Society. I have now added a Młodystach Family History page. The information about the Queensland Haberechts comes primarily from the recently published "Haberecht Family History 1848-2004".

If you have photographs or documents you would like included on the site, please scan them and email them to me, including relevant details of people in photographs or referred to in documents.

Please note that in accordance with standard genealogical practice, women on this site are always shown with their birth surname.

The names I am researching include:
Allen, Brock, Browne, Cave, De Whan, Haberecht, Hermann, Huebner, Johnson, Kayworth, Kennedy, Lennon, Liston, Maslen, Modistach, Neidovener, O'Hara, Pawelski, Pickford, Roll, Rosser, Short, Slater, Sprules, Steinkow

Every family historian/genealogist has the help of many people - without them our research would very quickly run into a dead end.

I've just realised that I've previously neglected to mention Helen Perry, who gave me a tremendous amount of information in my early days of researching the family history. Helen was very generous with her information and I'm rather mortified that she 'slipped off my radar' when I was thanking the appropriate people. Thanks Helen, your help was invaluable!

Glenda Haberecht has also provided much information and with her late husband Don wrote a history of the Haberecht family in Australia and organised Haberecht family reunions in 2005 in Walla Walla NSW, and Queensland. Glenda also donated copies of the Haberecht Family History to the Genealogical Society of Queensland, and the State Library of Queensland.

My nephew Tim Elliott and his fiancee Kirsty Dunn are doing some great research in Edinburgh and the Ardrossan area on the Liston line. Other people who have provided photos, feedback and or information include Roma Haberecht, Susan Haberecht, Neville Rosser, Alan Harris, Karen Wenke, Jeanie Binns, Cora Howard, Brenda Rosser, Brian Liston, and all my relatives who have returned forms and questionnaires over the years - and my apologies if I've fogotten anyone.

I should also mention my mother Joy who has been a great help in following up and encouraging people to return the information. Thanks everybody for your help in this ongoing project.

Belle Short, my wonderful grandmother, provided much valuable information when I was first starting my investigations of the family history - we were hugely saddened by her death on 16th January 2006. And with the death of Cora, Nan's last remaining sibling, on 3rd September 2006, we had the end of an era.
