Introduction

Almost all Australian Haberechts and their descendants are descended from Johann Gottlob HABERECHT and Maria Elisabeth HUEBNER.

Johann Gottlob was born 7th October 1782 in Lampersdorf, Reichenbach, Silesia, Prussia. Maria Elisabeth was born in Weigelsdorf, Silesia. Both died in Light Pass, South Australia - Johann in 1864, and Maria in 1860.

Their son Johann Carl Gottlob HABERECHT had emigrated to Australia in 1848. He and his wife Susanna Eleonore HERMANN and their four children arrived in Adelaide on 1st August 1848 aboard the Leontine. They settled first in the Barossa Valley in South Australia, then later travelling overland to the Jindera area of southern New South Wales. Simon Modistach, whose daughter Anna Dorothea Martha married my great grandfather August Paul Haberecht, arrived in South Australia aboard the George Washington in 1844, with his wife Franzeska Pawelski.

Another son, Ernst Wilhelm HABERECHT, had died in Prussia in about 1867. His widow and most of his children eventually went to Australia as well, but settled in Queensland, establishing the Queensland branch of the Haberechts. Nothing was known of this branch by the other present day Australian Haberecht family members, until Glenda and Don Haberecht began researching the family history.

Vintage Spanners and Wrenches - a Haberecht connection

See the site Australian Vintage Spanners and Wrenches for images of spanners made by Haberecht Bros, presumably of Henty, and an agricultural implement made by H. Haberecht of Jindera.

Haberecht Family History Book

Glenda and Don Haberecht have now completed the huge task of organising family reunions in 2005 in Walla Walla NSW and Brisbane, as well as writing a Haberecht family history. Thanks Glenda and Don for all your work - note: sadly, Don passed away 23rd August 2008.
