A call for entries:
The Actors' Theatre of South Carolina is looking for entries from filmmakers for the Folly Felder Film Festival of Five Minute Films, as part of Piccolo Spoleto International Festival.
Five minutes maximum.

First prize is $500.00 and a "Golden" Palmetto award. Second and third prizes are "Silver" and "Bronze" Palmetto awards.

Sponsors are WEIGHT WATCHERS, IN GOOD TASTE GOURMET SHOP and ACTORS' THEATRE OF SC.

10 slots will be filled by films chosen by a panel and will be shown at the first-ever Folly Beach Piccolo Spoleto Festival event!

RULES FOR FILMMAKERS:
Running time - five minutes maximum.
ANY GENRE - drama, comedy, documentary - but must have a story.
Must be an original work - no remakes.
Intended for general audience.
The film can be one created many years ago or just completed.

DELIVERY - On DVD, VHS or as an AVI file. Submissions cannot be returned, so please MAKE A BACK UP COPY!

PROFILES ON THE CREATORS...
NICK SMITH, ex-Director of The Scottish National Film School, is a writer, actor and director fresh from the UK. As an actor, he has played cops, medics, killers and cats on TV and in movies. His film credits include Breaking Up is Hard to Do and Wilbur. He was a firefighter in the cult hit Scottish soap opera, High Road and a forensics expert in Taggart. He has also presented factual programs, performed voice-overs and appeared on stage, radio and in commercials. Nick is the author of 'Scriptwriting: The Secrets Unleashed' (WR Press 2000), drawing on his experience as a writer for everything from movies (Hecklers - HTV Films) and TV (The Great Scottish Walk - BBC) to radio, plays and novels (Milk Treading - Luath Press 2002). He has a bachelor's degree in writing for film and television, and ran the Screenwriters' Studio in England from 2002-3. Mr. Smith founded the Scottish Film School in 1997, which over the next five years taught almost 2000 students. He coached many more worldwide through websites like Scriptwriters Inc. and The Scriptwriters' Niche. From 1997-2002 he ran a production company (Fierce Films - Ross Campbell Award winner), specializing in independent features, documentaries (Lethal Exposure won first prize from the Penny Cup Jury) and TV drama (Space won a Royal Television Society award for best film).

Clarence has directed numerous stage productions including A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, OUR TOWN, THE CRUCIBLE, DEARLY DEPARTED, ESCURIAL, THE INVESTIGATION and 27 productions for The Actors' Theatre of SC. He is originally from St. Matthews, SC.

MICHAEL GIVENS...is an American Director with an international reputation. He is a native of South Carolina and graduate of Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara. He made his directorial debut under the tutelage of Ridley Scott, was the director of second unit for Coyote Ugly and was the Director of Photography for Rebel Private. He is internationally respected as a director for nine years working with other such noted directors as Steven Friers and Peter Smillie. Mr. Givens has directed award-winning campaigns for many large corporations including UPS, Credit Swiss, Fedex and Visa. Combining his knowledge as a commercial director and his experience as a Director of Photography in feature films, Michael brings a highly defined sense of storytelling to his work. He lives in Beaufort, SC and is currently shooting the film version of The Celestine Prophecies in Florida.

ABOUT THE COMPANY...
THE ACTORS' THEATRE OF SOUTH CAROLINA
is one of the few professional Actors Equity Guest Artist Theatre companies operating in the state of South Carolina. It was founded in 1995 by theatre, film and television veterans and husband and wife team, Clarence Felder and Chris Weatherhead to bring excellent theatre to South Carolina. They have produced forty-six productions in eight years. They also are dedicated to training professionals in the theatre and film business.
ATSC has been chosen four times for the Piccolo Spoleto Theatre Festival in Charleston.

ATSC is funded in part by The City of Folly Beach, The City of Charleston, The SC Humanities Council, The SC ARTS Commission, SCANA Corporation, and others. The Actors' Theatre of SC has joined with The City of Folly Beach and the Folly Beach Arts Guild to create the Folly Beach Fine Arts Center, serving the entire Charleston region.
