An Eastern Easter

This week, we invited our friends children over to dye three kilos of eggs which I then hid in the classroom for my sophomore English majors.

Needless to say, this led to a discussion of “Fu Huo Jie,” which translates into “Resurrection Festival.” The only trouble is, when Chinese people hear resurrection, they don’t think salvation, they think ghosts!

One of my brightest students asked, “Didn’t you have your ghost holiday in October? What’s the difference between Easter and Halloween besides the eggs?”
