Long live the glorious People's Republic!


China no longer offers lifetime employment and guaranteed housing, and you have to pay for your education and healthcare. But internet access is free!

It took us a week to find this out, but as long as you're content with dial-up service, and as long as you have a telephone, the internet is yours for the cost of a local phone call. Every region of the country has a number you dial to go online - ours is 16300 - and the same number serves as your user id and password.

Wouldn't that be a nice service to offer in the US?
