Through the Looking Glass
I sometimes forget what the US is really like.
Yesterday, one of my teachers asked me to help her translate some of the text in a product catalog. It was for some bogus, New Age weight-loss scam, selling "Carb Blockers" and "Blueberry Crunch 'Trim Advantage®' Total Meal Replacement Bars". It was so surreal trying to explain to a Chinese woman that in America people think eating food like rice will make you fat, and eating blueberry flavored candy bars will keep you thin. My teacher, like most of the women in China, eats rice or noodles three meals a day, and weighs less than 100 pounds.
