Looking Forward

I'm not as close to retirement as I'd like to be, but I still spend a lot of time thinking about whether or not it makes sense to retire in China.

The biggest advantage is financial. The very best, brand-new, apartments in town cost about $25,000. The cost of living is equivalently cheaper. Health care is not great, but it's getting better, and like everywhere else, your care is improved with $$$.

The downside is political. Currently, the Chinese government is allowing more personal and financial freedom, but I can't be sure that trend will continue. On the other hand, the trend in the US is in the opposite direction, so maybe the paths will cross.

Today, I realized that trying to predict the future is a waste of time. My decision about where to live can't depend on having that certainty. I'm now thinking that my decision will have to be based on which country's future I hope to share. Increasingly, that country is China.
