| Census Data: The census data (including agricultural, industrial, and death schedules) is transcribed from the State of Wisconsin's copies of the Federal Census. I first transcribed the data from microfilm copies of the census. The 1860 and 1870 data were then cross-checked against the original hard-copies. Additional checking was done against published indexes of the Federal Census. The reason I used the State's copies rather than the Federal originals was a matter of cost. Nobody is funding this little project. The costs are all coming out of my pocket so I wanted to keep my costs down. Because of the magnitude of my project, the Historical Society graciously loaned me the equipment and microfilms necessary for transcribing the bulk of the data. The census microfilms are available to everyone in the Microforms Room of the Wisconsin State Historical Society. The original copies of 1860 and 1870, and the published indexes, are also available to everyone in the Reading Room of the Society. Microfilms of the Federal Census are available
