Careers Service
by John Devlin
The e-mail below was received by me from the Development Office on 3 May, 2007 with the request to post on our website:
"Dear Regional Contact for Canada
I do hope you are well. I am writing from the University of Cambridge Development Office as we have recently been contacted by Mr Gordon Chesterman, Director of the Careers Service at the University of Cambridge. He is currently in the process of producing a new Careers Guide for Canadian students studying at Cambridge, which will give them advice on when and how to apply for jobs back home, on overcoming the problems of applying for opportunities many miles away, along with descriptions of the major employment sectors etc.
He is looking for alumni to offer their brief (150 - 200 words), personal profile to include in the Guide. They should be someone who studied at Cambridge and, ideally, be two or three years into their career. (They should obviously be working in Canada as well.) He wants to cover a variety of occupations; banking, law, finance, consultancy, manufacturing etc, as well as some people working outside these traditional sectors, especially those in academia.
By offering their profile, they will be helping their fellow countrymen explore career choices, improve their chances of success and, if the profiles decide to include their current employer's name, will be promoting their own organisation.
Please could you forward this email to either everybody in your group or to those whom you think meet the specifications set out in the second paragraph. If you could also publicise this request on your web site/newsletter etc. I would be most grateful. Please do not send any profiles to me but rather email them to Mr Chesterman on gordonchesterman@careers.cam.ac.uk
Please do email him if you have any questions regarding this.
Thanking you in advance
