Stage 1 and we
replicate the Team Time Trial Stage of the 2007 Giro d'Italia.
Above team Gerolsteiner race acorss the causeway between La
Maddalena and Caprera Islands
Stewart shows the
way across the causeway whilst the bunch looms in the
background. (yes my photo is not as good as
the Gerlsteiner one left but I took it with my little Cannon
from my back pocket - I didn't have the Nikon D80 with me !!)
Andy and Marko
sprint across the causeway.
All smiles as the
group assembles for the start of Stage 1 - A ferry trip
and bike ride through La Maddalena and Caprera Islands, ferry
back to Palau and bike ride to Capo d’Orso and Baia Sardinia.
But let's wind the
clock back and the stage began after a beautiful breakfast at
the hotel.
After a short ride
we were at the dock and waiting for the Ferry to take us across
to La Maddalena
The Ferry quickly filled and we crammed onboard.
We wave goodbye and settle in to enjoy the view
The view was magnificent as is all of the Sardinian
coastline.
All smiles as we enjoy our short Mediterranean
cruise to La Maddalena
Sandro looked pretty happy despite the fact that it was his
turn in the van today and Marko's turn to ride.
More smiling faces. Anna and
Knuckles look pretty happy.
View from the front of the ferry
View from the back of the ferry.
Enjoying the cruise.
Ready to disembark.
Sandro drives the
Dolcevita Tours van off the ferry. What a great van, a
nine seater funfest with all the girls, Joanne, Janette, Anna,
Sue, Kathy and Rebecca treating Sandro to various renditions of
their repertoire of songs and jokes
The riders disembark and roll out
to La Madellina.
La Maddalena was absolutely
georgeous. This called for a group shot, well half of us
anyway.
After a trip across the causeway we explore the
Caprera Islands and its stunning
backdrop yields yet another occasion for a group shot.
Having completed our photo stops, it was time to
ride and so we did enjoying the magnificent car free roads with
gloriously smooth bitumen roads. One thing that the
Italians do well is make roads. Just about every one feels
like the surface on a race track. Australian "Dead Roads".
What are they? They don't exist over here.
Sandro pilots the support vehilce and keeps the
bunch in check.
