He later lived in Tennessee and North Carolina. He fought in the Revolutionary War (possibly at King's Mountain and Guilford Courthouse with General Nathanael Greene). He moved to Alabama 1819 and is buried at Old Zion, up Highway 5 in Walker County. He was already a widower when we arrived in Walker County. Children:

John Hampton Alexander (1823-1872)
Martha Inmon
Luticia O'rear (married Martha O'rear). There is a "Lutessa Alexander O'Rear" mentioned in The Heritage of Walker County, Alabama (Clanton, AL: Heritage Publishing Consultants, 1999), p. 285 as an ancestor of Jefferson Davis McKay.
Abigal Randolph
Esther Stephenson (married to Adam Stephenson. Jeremiah was living with them in the 1840 census.)

Jeremiah's Revolutionary War pension is Certificate No. 19802, Alabama Agency. Sources:

  1. "Alabama Records — Volume 74, Morgan County," located in Birmingham Public Library (F325 .A32).
  2. "Alabama Records — Volume 32, Morgan County" located in Birmingham Public Library (F325 .A32), pp. 84-85.

Note: on second thought, this seems something of a stretch. Was Jeremiah 60 years old when he became a father? Possible; likely, given other incidents in the family; but somewhat improbable...

In a slave record, John is recorded as owning 8 slaves prior to the Civil War. John is listed as "John E." in the 1860 census.

Malinda Brock Alexander was an original member of Beech Grove church in 1860. Source: The Heritage of Walker County, Alabama (Clanton, AL: Heritage Publishing Consultants, 1999), p. 10. According to her tombstone, she was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. I don't know if John was a mason or not.
