(When we first moved here, we looked at all the hill areas, with their stoney ground surface, as useless space that was not good for horse turnout. But, a few months later, we took a second look at possible turnout expansion into some of these areas, which we now consider to be especially valuable features of our particular property.) To return to pasture from the barn paddock, the horses and llamas must go down a steep hill by way of this fenced trailway that divides the naturally wooded area that separates the house from the back pasture. Less than half way down this trail we installed a pair of gates and extra new fencing, creating what we call a 'bypass trail'. These features are used to control whether the horses and llamas have continuous access from the barn area to either, both, or none of the pastures, as various conditions may require.
