A Brief History of

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church

December, 1990

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Kingman, Arizona, had its beginning on Reformation Sunday, 1984. Our first Pastor was Rev. Clarence Kindschy, who with his wife Helen, made the 300 mile round trip from Flagstaff every Sunday to conduct a 5:00 p.m. Service in a community room of a local savings and loan.

We left those facilities in June of 1985, and we moved to Sutton Mortuary where we shared the chapel with the Methodist Church. Vicar John Mitchell served us from July of 1985 to July of 1986. Vicar Timothy Carr was assigned to us by the Mission Board from July of 1986 to July of 1987. We were without a Pastor until November of 1987. In the interim our elders conducted services. Pastor Michael Holsten was assigned to us in November of 1987. He left December 31, 1989.

We were without a Pastor again but we were lovingly served by Pastor Deterding of Frankenmuth, Michigan, until April, 1990, when Pastor Fehner of Las Vegas conducted Sunday Services until our present MAL Pastor Timothy D. Klug came to us in August of 1990.

At the present time, with God's help, we broke ground for a sanctuary, December 16, 1990, and we are anxiously waiting for it to be finished so we may worship the Lord in our own church.

We started with 8 to 10 members attending and now we have 63 communicant members. We hope to grow in our new facility with a preschool.

A big challenge here is that we have many retired persons on a fixed income but the city is growing and young people are moving into the area which has helped our Sunday School to grow.

Our members are all actively working toward a future in Christ, without whom we can do nothing.
