Red Sox win the World Series



La historia deportiva del año según ESPN y un titular que ningún fanático de los Medias Rojas se cansará de repetir. (The Sports Guy en ESPN.)

Tony C's beanball, Pesky's double-clutch, the sale of The Babe ... these were the stories I grew up with. During that traumatic Game 3 against the Yanks, I wondered if it would be fair to raise my kids as Sox fans. Why would I do that to them? One day later I cheered Derek Lowe as he loped to the bullpen, holding onto a sliver of hope like everyone else. My father was next to me, closer to 60 than 50. You couldn't blame him if he heard the clock ticking. That's the thing about the Sox -- they always made you take a deep breath and say, "We'll get 'em next year," and then 10 years would zoom by. Nothing has made me so consistently aware of my mortality. Nothing.

Ten days later, the Red Sox won the World Series."

Soy anti-Chávez


Karina piensa que paso mucho tiempo criticando a la oposición.

Traté de sentarme a escribir las razones por las que soy anti-Chávez, pero terminó siendo un ejercicio inútil. Critico a la oposición por la misma razón por la que critico a Apple, simplemente ni siquiera considero a Chávez como una opción para Venezuela. No sé qué mas decir... espero que esto se resuelva pronto y que huir de Venezuela no termine siendo nuestra única opción. :(

Caring for your introvert



"Do you know someone who needs hours alone every day? Who loves quiet conversations about feelings or ideas, and can give a dynamite presentation to a big audience, but seems awkward in groups and maladroit at small talk? Who has to be dragged to parties and then needs the rest of the day to recuperate? Who growls or scowls or grunts or winces when accosted with pleasantries by people who are just trying to be nice?

If so, do you tell this person he is "too serious," or ask if he is okay? Regard him as aloof, arrogant, rude? Redouble your efforts to draw him out?

If you answered yes to these questions, chances are that you have an introvert on your hands—and that you aren't caring for him properly."

Excelente artículo de Bill Simmons (Boston Sports Guy) sobre la rivalidad Yankees/Medias Rojas, la influencia del Internet sobre la contratación de Curt Shilling (¡quien resultó ser un geek!) y más sobre lo que significa ser fanático de Boston (aunque el anterior es más accesible para los que no son fanáticos del béisbol).

At the time, I went through the same grieving process as everyone else. You know how it goes. The first few days are miserable. Your friends can't maintain eye contact without helplessly shaking their head. You go days and days without shaving. You wear the same pair of jeans for a solid week. You can't stop thinking about the game, so you watch it again ... and that only makes it worse. You end up with that glazed, weathered look of Andy Dufresne after the Warden lets him out of the hole. Finally, you glimpse yourself in the mirror and think, "My God, it's only a game, this can't possibly be worth it."
