Internet - 05/31/04

Internet is a little tricky here.
First, as far as I know any American provider is going to slap an hourly surcharge on usage here.
Secondly the providers over here are a bit flaky. One even advertised you could log in 24 hours a day. I ended up going with a company called GermanosNet. Cost was 57 Euros for 4 months. They seem pretty good and connections are reliable. The only problem I have is that the IBC blocks all dial out internet access calls. They say it's for security reasons. Apparently most Greek providers have to use a certain prefix and they block those on the PBX. That MIGHT not be an issue for those of you Games time folks. I wouldn't think they would block any numbers in the Media Villages or Venues but hey you never know.
However I did find that my AT&T Global account has a prefix that can dial out. Makes me feel like a hacker. Here's a link you can cut and past into you browsers that should take you to their site.

If this doesn't work just Google up AT&T Global.

I should add that at the hotel the best connection I can get is 26.4K and at the IBC it's 52K. Hopefully all these new places will be able to do 50+K.
