Mandatory Evacuations and Updates
The whole Running Springs Area,
including Arrowbear and Green Valley Lake as of 2pm.
- [Webmaster note: Listening
to the scanner today... I just want to express how professional, courageous, and
coordinated the agencies fighting all of these fires are. As much as the fires
are incredible, so are these
people.]
-
There is a vegetation fire taking off. [Waiting for more information on the
scanner.]

"I have been
flipping from Ch 9 to Ch 2. Channel 2 arial views are very good along with
accurate reporting. Firefighters have started a control burn at Dead Man's Turn
(the large corner turn out you see going eastbound on 18 before Rim Forest). The
burn is to make sure when the fire that is currently in the canyon below turns
to go up to hwy 18, it will have no fuel. So far so good. The aerial views do
not show any part of Rim Forest burning. However, it is fast approaching."

- Fox11: Air
Support and Retardant over Rim High School for the past hour, with a "burn"
behind the school. Parts of the fire are holding steady for now with favorable
winds. Obviously, anything can change. But the fight is in a positive direction.

"I just took a
drive along Highway 30 in front of the mountain. I could clearly see Strawberry
Peak, and I have to say that it looks like good news for the Twin Peaks area. We
were concerned last night when we saw fire on the news crossing the 18 at
Bayliss park and burning up the hill, but apparently, they''ve gotten a handle
on that. There is fire burning south of the 18 in front of Strawberry Peak, but
I could clearly see blue sky and an unburned green (and brown) ridge both East
and West of Strawberry Peak. There is no visible smoke on the peak or behind it
on either side. There is the little fire South of Strawberry Peak, and heavy
activity very far to the east (near City Creek) and very far to the west
(Devore), but most of the mountain now appears to be clean. It looks like at
this time, the only area on top of the Mountain near Twin Peaks that has had any
trouble is Skyland and that was yesterday." [Daniel

- Fire is
making an aggressive run along the 330 toward Oak Hill.

KFI 640 is now reporting the fire in Green
Valley.
- "Yes, this is
the Green River Valley fire... they are trying to evacuate people... heard it on
the police scanner in the Arco station...lot's of fuel on board that plane...
Big Bear may be in for it after all. Heard it was 11 miles away on the scanner
though... hope so." [From
CrestlineKathy]
- "They
THINK they have all the tankers accounted for and maybe wreckage is from a
different plane down a few weeks ago. (least thats the impression I'm getting).
Hopefully, the initial reporting was a mistake, and all are fine." [Denny,
Message Board]
- "As of
now, Lake Arrowhead and Cedar Glen are not in immediate danger. If the fire
jumps 18 near Daily Canyon Agua Fria could be in danger because of limited
access to the woods there. Firefighters are doing their best to hold the line
there on but may have to fall back. Air support is becoming avalible now." [Joe,
Message Board]
- They
are using a "burn" in front of the Rim of the World High
School.
- According to
KCAL9 news at 1pm, parts of Crestline have significantly burned. Blue Jay and
Lake Arrowhead have no confirmed damage. The USFS is about to use a burn on some
of the dead trees by the high school. Albeit risky, they feel they have no
choice with the weather being cooperative. They want to minimize the "fuel" as
much as they can with the physical room they have for
equipment.
