New Update from Brenda Meyer
Important news concerning facts versus
unconfirmed reports.
I've just talked to Mike
Chilson who stayed in Crestline to help firefighters. He is supposed to be
meeting with Ch 9 News to correct a lot of bad info that has been reported. I'll
let you know if Ch 9 makes it up the
hill.
THIS INFORMATION
IS ACCURATE
VOE has not
burned!
Johnnie's Market has
not burned!
Top Town has not
burned!
Devil's Canyon has
not burned!
He said that several homes
(19) in the Skyland area on Venus, Saturn, Jupiter were lost and one was lost
west of Top Town. Fire had also taken a few homes West of Ocean
View.
Homes on
Playground were saved by a resident that had left a water sprinkler
running.
Devil's Canyon
has not burned but the tops of the trees and lower pine needles have ignited but
have been put out by firefighters. The worry now is that the fire is approaching
the Devil's Canyon, Sawpit Canyon and Job's Peak areas from the Devore area and
coming up over the hills. They are watching this area closely since there are
areas in these canyons that continue to
smolder.
There is a
major difference from this fire and the Panorama Fire 23 yrs ago. They have been
using air assaults dropping water and fire retardant on homes and surrounding
areas preventing the fire from spreading.
The Skyland area was a
difficult fight to protect the majority of homes from spreading fire. I am
eternally grateful for all efforts to protect this area as firefighters battled
100+ ft flames. I know that we are told not to stay and protect our homes with
garden hoses, but it's been a great help to leave a sprinkler going around
homes.
The Crestline
area including downtown, San Moritz, Dart Canyon, VOE, 1000 Pines, above 7-11
and CCP are safe for now. I'll say a prayer for Rim Forest and the communities
to the East.
God bless
the
firefighters!
