The Federer Line

Watching Wimbleton this year I was, yet again, cheering for Federer to defeat Roddick. Go with the classy European guy over sloppy hat backwards American jackass. But at what point does classy and European become rich and arrogant fuckwad? I'm afraid that point came for me during the adds for "NetJets" http://www.executive-jet.com/NetJets_differences/Only_NetJets.asp

The above images came from googling "classy" and "Federer"

I think we need to define a new metric. Take a person's carbon footprint and subtract their IQ. We'll call it something like the Stupid Carbon Index. The idea is, a genius who has to fly a lot and lives in a big house will have a similar number to the idiot who happens to walk to work. Federer's number will be like the Mendoza line in baseball. He's an idiot, who flies in jets all the time ... BY HIMSELF. If your Stupid Carbon Index (SCI) is higher than the Federer line you should really think twice about breeding because you're probably a mouth breathing stain on the planet.

Yeah, a bit harsh, I know. I just bought a car and I have a long commute to my new job so I'm feeling a bit defensive about my environmental street cred.

But someone (you know who you are) explain to me NetJet's marketing strategy. 99.99% of the viewing audience cannot afford their product - are they really hoping to catch the one Billionaire who was on the fence about which exclusive luxury jet company to buy* and who happenes to be watching tennis on TV? If they can afford your product and like tennis, wouldn't they be AT Wimbleton already? As the TV scanned the crowd I kept thinking - that's NetJet's only audience, and none of them are watching TV right now. Wouldn't you think the money be best spent targeting that one guy/gal in Billionaire Monthly - thereby not creating general resentment among the rest of us? (to be fair, it looks like they do that too.)
* yes, you cannot rent a NetJet you have to become a "Fractional Aircraft Owner".

btw, check this out from their website; "NetJets Inc.is the world's largest purchaser of aircraft, aircraft engines, and avionics." Holy crap who ARE these people?!
