Who are you and why are you doing this?
A little about us...
Joe Shockley is the DJ/Drummer/Producer/Programmer of the group. He's your host for The Datasound Podcast and he loves songs you can dance to and that are "Snappy". Joe is the guy who will hum a melody over and over again in Johns ear until it become exactly what he's looking for.
John Tooker is the Multi-Instrumentalist/Recording Engineer/Producer/Programmer of the group. He's happiest on bass but does very well on the Guitar & Keyboard and knows his way around the studio. He's often known for saying things like "Yes!!! just like that!... but let's do it again... and this time with less SUCK!"
What we're about...
We're about diversity and making as much music as possible. We love all different types of music as you can see in the influences and sounds like section, but for the moment we're focused on two things... The upbeat Indie Dance Rock sound (Hot Hot Heat, The Clash, !!!, The Cure, Franz Ferdinand, The Rapture, Moving Units, The Killers, etc.) and The Moody Melodic Rock sound (Radiohead, Pink Floyd, PJ Harvey, Interpol, The Cure (again), TV on the Radio, Muse, Etc.)
Even though we're focused on our band Marqui Adora at the moment we're also into producing, remixing, scoring, and introducing the world to some of our favorite music through The Datasound Podcast.
Besure to check out thedatasound.com for info and updates and if you are a member of MySpace be sure to add The Datasound's MySpace Page
Email should be sent to: thedatasound (at) gmail (dot) com
How can I repay you for all of this hard work, research, and bandwidth?
For the moment you can support our band Marqui Adora. In the future we will add some other ways but for now just be ready to buy our album when it is released sometime in September. We should have it available from cdbaby.com and the iTunes music store. Watch this space for more info.

What is a Podcast/Podcasting?
Visit Wikipedia for more information on Podcasting.

What format are the episodes encoded in?
All shows are encoded in AAC format for a better quality show. We picked AAC for both it's better sound quality at lower bit rates and the ability to include bookmarked chapters as an "Enhanced Podcast"
What is an enhanced podcast?
An enhanced podcast can include chapter marks and photos. When you play an enhanced podcast in iTunes, a menu icon appears to the left of the display at the top of the iTunes window.
If you click this icon, a pop-up menu appears and displays the podcast's chapter marks, artwork, and start time of each chapter.
(Note: Mac OS X 10.2.x users won't see artwork in the pop-up menu, but everything else works the same).
When you play an enhanced podcast on an iPod, your iPod displays the name of the chapter you're listening to above the playback position in the episode. To see this, press the Select button during play to make a diamond appear in the bar. You can then scroll the wheel right to scrub forward, or left to scrub backwards.
Where is the "album art display window" in iTunes I don't see it?
To see the album art display window you will need to press the button that we've highlighted in green.

With this window open you will have access to some of the links in our shownotes. We link to the song in iTunes or to the bands website so you can easily find the artist you like and support them.
Can you give me an MP3 file instead of AAC since my MP3 player is not an iPod?
Sorry but we are sticking with AAC since it has the links and artwork abilities that we think are very important for a good podcast. You should be able to convert them to a format more friendly to your player but we haven't done so ourselves so don't ask us what to do.
Do I have to use iTunes to get The Datasound Podcast?
Yes.
But I hate Apple and their Macs and iPods and for that matter anything that has a small letter i before a capital letter!
Okay you can use this link
subscribe. But don't ask us what to do with it. We use iTunes for the way it does things quickly and without a lot of hoops to jump through.
What do you use to make the show?
Any given episode might use any combination of Protools LE, Live, Logic Pro, ChapterToolMe, Reason, Cyberduck, and iTunes. The services we use to bring the episodes to you are LibSyn, Feedburner, and Blogger. Hardware wise we use Apple Powerbooks and PowerMacs with Digidesign hardware and an Audiotechnica mic.
Who wrote your intro/outro music?
The song at the start and end of each episode is called Attack and is an unreleased song of ours.
How do you select the songs for each show?
They are all songs we like.
Bands who would like to submit songs for the show send an e-mail to: thedatasound (at) gmail (dot) com
What's with the emphasis on iTunes, iPods, and Apple?
We like their stuff and it's what we use to make these shows.
