The maps in this section will
orient the reader to estimate the distances between
locations cited in the text. The maps are reproduced from
the book by: Douglas
Leach, “Flintop and Tomahawk, New England in King
Philip’s War,” Parnassus, East Orleans,
1958
The first map shows the area that was first engaged in this
war. The Mount Hope map shows Swansea, the Pease field, the
Pocasset Swamp, the Taunton River, the Quequechan River as
well as Mount Hope, King Philip's seat.
The second map shows Boston and its environs including
Dedham and Natick. This map illustrates how close the
Native American attacks were to Boston.
The third map shows the Western side of Narragansett Bay
and the location of the Great Swamp - the site of the
English attack on a Narragansett winter camp in a snowy,
freezing winter day.
The last map shows the Upper Connecticut Valley and the
location of the Native American attack on Deerfield. The
attack is still commemorated in Deerfield to this
day.
