June 29, 1675 Attacks on settlers in the Rehoboth-Taunton
area begin.
June 30, 1675 Colonial army “sweeps” Mount
Hope, while Philip escapes to Pocasset (North Tiverton,
R.I.).
July 8, 1675 Governor Andros of New York attempts to seize
Old Saybrook, Conn, but is forced to retreat.
Church’s Pease Field Fight (Pocasset) occurs.
Middleborough and Dartmouth are attacked.
July 14, 1675 Nipmucks attack Mendon.
July 19,1675 Battle of Pocasset Swamp. The English commit
the greatest blunder of the War. They decide to build a
fort on the West side to hold Philip in the swamp.
July 29, 1675 Philip leaves the Pocasset swamp on the North
side, travels through present day Fall River and crosses
the Taunton River at the North end of Fall River.
July 31, 1675 The English with their Mohegan allies
overtake Philip at Rehoboth but fail to stop his flight to
the northwest and the Native American camp near Brookfield.
August 2-4, 1675 Hutchinson and Wheeler are besieged at
Brookfield.
August 24-25, 1675 Battle of Hopewell Swamp occurs south of
Deerfield Mass.
September 3, 1675 Captain Beers is ambushed while
evacuating Squakeag (Northfield), northeast of Deerfield.
September 12, 1675 Deerfield, Squakeag and Brookfield are
evacuated.
September 18, 1675 Captain Lathrop escorting evacuees from
Deerfield is ambushed and defeated at Bloody Brook.
October 4-5, 1675 Springfield, Mass. is attacked and partly
burned.
October 18, 1675 Native Americans attack Hatfield and are
repulsed.
November 2-12, 1675 Commissioners of the United Colonies
decide to attack the Narragansetts with an army of one
thousand men.
December 8, 1675 Forces for Narragansett Expedition, to be
commanded by Governor Winslow of Plymouth, muster at
Dedham, Mass., Taunton, Plymouth and New London.
December 12-18, 1675, Winslow’s force unites at
Wickford, R.I. They are compelled to act because provisions
are short.
Winslow’s troop move to the Great Swamp guided by
Peter, a friendly Native American.
December 19, 1675 The Great Swamp fight occurs. Eighty
English and six hundred Narragansetts (half of them women
and children) are killed.
January 27, 1676 Native Americans raid Pawtucket, R.I.
February 5, 1676 The “Hungary March” ends;
Winslow’s army disbands.
February 10, 1676 Lancaster is attached. A Native American
offensive begins.

March 12, 1676 Clark’s Garrison at Plymouth is

March 14, 1676 Philip attacks Northampton, Mass.
March 26, 1676 English on their way to church are massacred
at Longmeadow, Mass. Marlborough, Mass is partially
destroyed.
Simsbury, Conn. Is deserted and burnt.
A company of English soldiers and their Native American
allies are ambushed and wiped out on the Pawtucket River
near Rehoboth, Mass.
March 27, 1676 A battle is fought near Sudbury, Mass.
March 28, 1676 Native Americans attack Rehoboth.
March 29, 1676 Providence, R.I. is destroyed.
April 9, 1676 Canonchet, the Narragansett Sachem, is
captured and executed.
Mid-April An epidemic begins in Boston that carries off
many colonists including Governor Winslow.
April 21, 1676 Native Americans attack Sudbury, Mass.
April 27, 1676 The English go on the offensive in eastern
Massachusetts.
May 6, 1676 The English win several skirmishes. Bridgewater
is attacked.
May 11, 1676 Plymouth is attacked.
May 18-19 The English rout a Native American camp on the
Connecticut River above Deerfield. The English lose a
quarter of their 150 men during their retreat.
May 24, 1676 The English defeat Native Americans on the
Pawtucket River.
June 3-10, 1676 Benjamin Church recruits both English and
Native Americans to set up a quick strike force to find and
defeat Philip and his allies.
June 12, 1676 Hadley, Mass. is attacked.
June 19, 1676 Massachusetts offers amnesty to Native
Americans who surrender.
July 2-3, 1676 The English inflict major defeats on the
Narragansetts at Nipsachuck and Warwick, R.I. In Maine, a
treaty ends hostilities.
July 6-16, 1676 The English pursue Philip and his followers
in the Mount Hope country.
July 11, 1676 Taunton is attacked. Church wins a skirmish
at Middleborough and another at Monponsett.
July 25, 1676 Pomham, an important sachem, is captured.
July 27-30 One hundred eighty Nipmucks surrender at Boston.
July 31, 1676 Church’s soldiers kill Philip’s
uncle.
August 1, 1676 Church captures Philip’s wife and son.
August 3, 1676 The English defeats Native Americans fleeing
west to New York.
August 6, 1676 Weetamoe drowns while fleeing near Taunton.
August 9, 1676 Church captures “Sam Barrow”.
August 10-12, 1676 Church ambushes Philip. A Native
American named Alderman shoots Philip. Philip’s death
marks the end of the King Philip War.
