The last strike in 1937 was the killer. The cumulative effects of motor transport, automobiles, the Cape Cod Canal, the movement of the cotton mills south to the cheaper labor supply, the reduction in cheap immigrant labor due to restrictive laws and the Great Depression and then the strike reduced receipts to the point that the Fall River Line had to close.
