Milestone!

Tonight's show is the 100th edition of Interstellar Overdrive (and no one's pulled the plug on it yet!). Thanks to everyone who supports this show, whether it be by listening live, joining us in the chat room, or downloading. We've made some great friends through this show, and look forward to the next 100. I was trying to think of something special to do tonight, and I thought it would be cool to take a look back at some of the bands I discovered in the early days of internet radio. Remember when you told AOL to piss off and you got your first broadband connection, and you could finally listen to streaming audio without the constant buffering that made it previously unlistenable? For me that happened in 2000, and I was in heaven after discovering a couple of prog stations on Live 365 (Brightlight's stream out of the Netherlands was a fav) as well as ProgRock.com, which had a cool weekly show called The Canvas Prog Hour (good to have you back Matt!) Anyway, maybe some of this will bring back memories like it did for me. Enjoy:

Please Enlighten Me.

Can someone please explain to me why the following ("Pisschrist", a crucifix floating in urine) is "art"; free expression protected by our First Amendment:

pisschrist

...when this next one is a sacrilege and an attack on Islam?

the

I'm so fucking tired of religious hypocrites of ALL beliefs. You've got priests stealing money from churches and molesting their youngsters. Evangelicals who, like the Pharisees, think they're better than everyone else, but extort money from their believers right through the television screen. Islam, whose very name supposedly means "peace", is cherry-picking the Quran to justify being hell-bent on destroying the world. Be careful what you wish for (martyrdom), it just might come true. But I doubt it'll be virgins awaiting your arrival. (And people wonder why I avoid church like the plague).

Happy Groundhog Day!

Yes, it's that time of year again when we all wait excitedly to see if a fat rat sees it's shadow after being awakened from hibernation by a bunch of idiots dressed in tuxes in hope of a favorable weather prediction. Of course, a groundhog has as much chance of an accurate weather forecast as some overpaid TV meteorologist (the Weather Channel chicks don't count Winking ) . In the mean time, we enjoy the following:

Wobbler - Rubato Industry
Helmet Of Gnats - Chimps In Space
House Of Not - Stranger
Mostly Autumn - Echoes
IZZ - Crossfire
Salem Hill - The Future Me
Chandelier - Glimpse Of Home
Canvas - Getting There
Cerafim - In My Life
Jimmy Chamberlin Complex - Owed To Darryl
Bubblemath - Potential People
Jadis - Standing Still
Sonic Pulsar - Somewhere In The Universe
Riverside - Volte-face
The Tangent - In Earnest
Sylvan - Strange Emotion

Don't forget: the Interstellar Overdrive podcast is now available at Podcast Alley!

A quick note: Due to a bug in my site software, some past podcast enclosures are still displaying as being present. Usually, I only keep the 4 most recent shows on hand.
