Photoplay

This week's show is a virtual neo-prog orgy
soaked in Gary Chandler's sweat. "Photoplay", the
new album from Jadis, is featured prominently in
today's show. It'll be released next month by
Inside Out. Be sure to pick up a copy or two and
help support John Jowitt's growing family, and
help pay Gary's laundry bills. Thanks to all who
take the time to listen, in real-time or
otherwise.

Who'd have thought that a stupid little webcast could cause so much controversy? In a way it's gratifying to know that you are noticed, that people are actually listening or paying attention to what you do. I've always been adamant about deflecting attention away from myself and making this show about the music. That's why you don't see my name here on anything show-related. I've always hated "internet DJs" who define themselves as internet DJs. Get over yourselves. I'm just a guy who loves this style of music and gets an opportunity to share my playlist for 3 hours every week. I think of it as like "back in the day" when you got home from the record store (in my case, Crow's Nest in Crest Hill, IL which sadly closed its doors Dec. 31 thanks to Amazon, Wal-Mart, and napster kiddies) and had your friends over to listen to the new Floyd album (while trying to figure out the meaning of the album cover).
So what's my point? Maybe I'm overly naive but I have faith that true prog fans would never misuse my show, via stream ripping or editing the podcast version, in order to avoid financially supporting the artists that appear on this show. Obviously, there's not a lot of money to be made being in a prog band these days. It's definitely all about being passionate about expressing the voices in their heads and the sounds in their souls. I believe that there are people who just aren't going to pay for music no matter what you do. I also believe most of those people are listening to Green Day and 50 Cent, not Transatlantic. Personally, I know I've spent more money on music in the last 5 years than the previous 25 combined, all due to the internet. I, and people like me and outlets like progrock.com, are just trying to spread the love and make it more possible for these musicians to be able to buy a pack of smokes without having to work 3 jobs.
Party on, Wayne
