Welcome to My Science & Nature Books |
 |
 |
I don't know about you, but I always have more books on my to-read list than I have time for them. If this is true for you, and if one of the books that you wanted to read was one of mine, I thought that I might be able to encourage you by offering some samples to listen to, from:
- Fire Under the Sea: The Discovery of the Most Extraordinary Environment on Earth -- Volcanic Hot Springs on the Ocean Floor
- A Common Fate: Endangered Salmon and the People of the Pacific Northwest
- The Northwest Salmon Crisis: A Documentary History
Although none of these books about scientific discovery and natural resource conflicts is new, I'd like to hope that they have elements of lasting interest or appeal. To go to the books and the selections just click the links at the top of this page -- separate links per book.
Please note that the audio files linked on the book pages are in the .MP3 format, now very common. You will probably have no trouble just clicking on your selection, and it should begin playing after a few moments. However, if you need a player application, download the QuickTime media player for Mac or Windows by copying and pasting this address into your Web browser: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
Do let me know if you have any trouble with the audio files.
For my part, this alternative way of publishing my creative work is appealing to me, and I hope you enjoy the selections.
I keep a quote by Ernest Hemingway taped to the front of my office computer: "There are some things which cannot be learned quickly and time, which is all we have, must be paid heavily for their acquiring. They are the very simplest things and because it takes a man's life to know them the little new that each man gets from life is very costly and the only heritage he has to leave."
