Comments: First, an excuse for my page: not only am I not a scientist, I'm still quite new to internet, and so, speaking of shlock, that's what my page looks like compared to yours. It's still under construction, though, and I hope to eventually add more content as well as slick effects like yours. YOUR page is great! I came in through 2001 (HAL, actually) (on altvista). I agree with you: 2001 is the greatest (fiction) movie of all time. I first saw it when I was about ten, and kept turning to my friend to ask, repeatedly, one of two questions: "what's going on?" and "Is this real?" Comments: Just read your essay on meeting Jack Vance, brilliant! the man is exactly as I pictured he would be in real life. I've only seen a photo of him and he looked irraciable. I've found his writing subtle, deep, at times pretentious but always wry in its observation of the human condition. Comments: This is about your little brain-turd regarding when the 21st Century begins. You are quite wrong there, chief. Here's why: Say someone was born on Jan. 1 1900. On Jan. 1 1950, they were exactly 50 years old, right? By simple logic it then follows that on Jan. 1, 2000, they (if they're not yet dead) would be how old? I think the answer would be 100, right? So, what does this mean? It means that on Jan. 1, 2000, that person had ALREADY LIVED 100 years. By the same bit of simple logic then, on Jan. 1, 2000, our present calendar had ALREADY PASSED THROUGH 2000 years, there boss. As for there being a year 0 or not, our calendar didn't come into existence until something like 200 years after the death of Christ. Furthermore, since Jesus was over 3o years old when he died, then the whole thing is off by another 30 years on top of that. So there. Since it is now the year 2002, we are in the THIRD year of the second Millennium, not in the SECOND. The SECOND year has already passed, and that was 2001. 2000 was the first year. Get it? I'm 23 right now, however I'm in my 24th year, not the 23rd. I have already LIVED 23 years, just as our calendar has been THROUGH 2002 years. Now shut the hell up. Thank you.
