Against the Fall of Night

This old painting, which mixed acrylics and gouache, was my second of several attempts to depict a scene from the "Diaspar" novels of Arthur C. Clarke. The other book is called The City and the Stars. Both are versions of the same story. Here we see a spaceship which has been buried for millions of years erupting from the ground under the command of the hero, Alvin.
