Austin-San Antonio...April '05
A great spring trip to a new part of the country.

The Capitol built 1888.
Made of Texas pink granite.
At 302', it's taller than the Capitol in D.C.
Beautiful restoration job. The star is over 8' wide
I found this odd.
The House of Reps just about to start a session.
Texans love their confederate history.
A monument to the confederacy in stone and flesh.
Old Bakery 1882. Two buildings later joined. Kitchen in back due to fire danger.
Deco State Theater
Originally a 1915 Paramount Theater now a live theater venue.
Not original. This copy was built using photographs of the original.
She fired at the Texas Rangers come to move the gov't to Houston. She succeeded.

LBJ's daughter lives on top 2 flrs. Behind is world's first self park garage.
The LBJ Library
Four floors of archived papers in acid free storage.
Twiggy stars in the Swinging 60's special exhibition.
Just off for a quick cocktail.
Oh the glamor.
And that cheeky Carnaby Street look.
Lamme's Candies, since 1885.
My new Austin friends Manuel, Lance, and Rob at Chain Drive
On to San Antonio and the Alamo.
Built around 1724 by Spanish Missionaries.
Beautiful gardens
Live Oak with old well.
On to Riverwalk
The SA river was about to be paved over & used for sewage.
Instead it was turned into this touristy but very lovely Riverwalk.
Abandoned building on the river
The Riverwalk sits 30 feet below street level.
Fiesta Parade celebrating Texas independence from Mexico.
Lots of floats and bands and dancers
Bright colors and loud music
My favorite float. "Texas Citrus Fiesta Mission" Texas
A quick bite after the parade. Suprise! I had a pig sandwich.
Back in Austin at Chain Drive for my last night.
Lance, Manuel, me enjoying a Shiner...a tasty locally brewed German beer.
