Mars 2003 Opposition

My best image of the opposition. This image won 4th place in the OPT Mars imaging contest. It won me a William Optics Megrez 80SD.

Look here for another view. The dark spot on the right limb was identified as a dust storm shadow by a representative of the Mars Orbiter team (I do not have permission to utilize there name). This feature was also captured by several other Mars imagers.

The 5x Powermate and better camera settings combine with excellent seeing to bring out significantly more detail.

See comparison of this image with Hubble image taken at almost exactly the same orientation.

Another F50 image with poor seeing.

I began to use the 5x Powermate with better camera settings to produce significantly better results with this image.

This is my first image of Mars for this opposition. The southern polar cap is very prominant.
