Views on the process so far.

-More dialogue about taste. Tn a restaurant they may be more likely to ask for the taste of what you would like to eat. And they may suggest starter, wines and dessert according to your choice of main course. Taste preferences could be salt, sweet, juicy, dry, grilled, fruity etc.. or pork, fish, salmon, cod, tout, duck, chicken, steak etc.

- Clearer sender. FIVH? WHO? The Panic button is not that relevant? The goal seem to be that people should plan ahead, so why the panic button?

- What type of person should the dialogue be based on? Should it be based on a person? We talked about politeness and coaching (butler + personal coach at the gym). A popular "food-person" is Jamie Oliver, and he is not exactly a butler, nor a personal coach, but he hits a lot of different people. People tend to respond positive to someone with a few quirks. A dialogue may become more human with than without quirks. A polite "food-person" would be the Swedish TV-cook Tina Nordström, who also are widely liked, but may be a bit to nice? Daniel likes her. I don't :-)

- Maybe tie the dialogue to a concrete person? With pictures and introduction? Daniel think there is more freedom in writing the dialogue in text only. Then users can use their own imagination. I agree.

- The dialogue structure will be card-based (like in old Hypercard, or Apple Media Tool) and written in Processing.

A rough sketch for the flow of the dialogues. The sender of this service may be an organisation or government who's goal is to increase the level of consciousness about ecological awareness in society. In this case specified to what the single person/family can contribute - buying local food, that hasn't been transported around the globe. Also a health perspective (healthy food = healthy people = better use of social/society recourses = ecology).
The user profile should ease the access for returning users. It contain the details you have entered earlier, and wouldn't have to bother with profiling the user every time. She/he can specify his/her goal with the use of this service - be it economical-, health- or ecological/enviromental goals. when used, the database knows what season of the year it is, and what location the user live in, and could then suggest meals according to availability of groceries and local good. I imagine this could be a sound future-service, combined with on-line fridges and food with RFID-tags. Then you could link your profile directly to your fridge and it instantly knows what you have in stock, and the "panic" button flowchart path would be even shorter :-) (PANIC!-> "ok, do this:")That was the grand vision of the full featured version.... i guess I will make a smaller version to begin with :-)The dialogue and language have to be able to motivate the user to contiue with this. The user may have an above average level of concern about the environment or his/her health. Hi/She have access to internet, and is willing to make an effort. Probably higher education. The language should not be snobbish or posh. This should be as a blend between the personal trainer at the gym, and a butler. Allways polite, informative but not dull, not to much small talk, and not to pushy. The main goal is to educate and motivate. The dialogue in practice will be done by multiple choice questions/options, not by language-recognition A.I. It would be nice to have some option in changing the pace according to what situation you are in as you use the service (are in a hurry, or want to use more time).Click on picture for larger version (1024x768)

New projectgroups. Andrea, Castillñano and myself are researching how the snowflake generator should work, and where it should be located.
I've got the server/client examples in Processing working between two macs in the same network. The java-applet in the client seems slow, doesn't recieve info from the server fast enough. Andrea tried to hook up to my server (in stockholm) from her pc (in oslo); no errormessages, but no updates either. Only first initial value got through. Using port 8080 to get through the firewall at aho. testresults: 1:- Server and client on same mac: runs smooth and fast(server: dual 2,5 GHz G5)2:- Server and client on different macs in same network: runs, but slow. loose about 10 frames/sec compared to server.(11Mb via IP/server: dual 2,5 GHz G5/client: 1,67 GHz G4)3- Server (mac) and client (pc) on diffenent networks: runs, but either only first frame recieved by client, or it runs extremely slow. no errormessages, so the client did get contact with server.(max 0,4Mb UL from server, IP, port 8080)The slowness/delay on the client when running server/client on different machines on same network may not be a problem for us. In the Processing example script, the animation is running on the client with input values received real time from the server. If we set up the Snowflake Generator the other way around - with the animation running on the server instead of the client, the clients could act merely as input nodes that feed the server (or a database on the server) with values. This way we eliminate any problem with slow network performance, and the java-applets being unable to update fast enough via IP. Also found a couple of flash-based drawing interfaces on the web. These are both interfaces where you can draw or arrange something that are stored on a server. The first example uses Macromedia Flash, ActionScript, PHP, Flash Remoting, PHPObject, XML server interactionhttp://tordevries.dvdt.us/leditor/http://www.pixeltees.com/make/?&c=20051118-020953-2139963560

Short introduction to blogging and RSS.
Make your own blogTo make a blog is simple. Have a look at some of the free web-based blogservices listed below, choose one, create an user account and start writing. They usually have very understandable instructions. For any platform, mac & pc:Free Web-based:- Blogger - Bloglines - Yahoo! - Livejournal - Weblogg.no (norwegian)- ABC-Blogg (norwegian)More advanced services- Typepad - WordPress For my own blog (the one you are reading now) I use a software called iBlog for Mac OS X. When I chose not to use a web-based solution I do need my own webserver where I can host the actual blog website and RSS-feeds. The web-based solutions also require you to be online while you are writing. With an application like iBlog I can write several entries with links and pictures while I'm offline, and then upload when I have access to internet again. I prefer this way of doing it because it gives me more freedom in creating my own webpage design and I can upload much more, bigger files like movies, presentations and pdf documents. Many RSS-reader application (see "What is RSS" further down in this text) have built-in blog-composing as well. Check them out and see which one suits you best. This is what my iBlog application looks like, with two blogs, each with different categories and several entries in each category. I can even use this to read RSS-feeds, but I prefer another application for that (again - look further down in this text). What is RSS?A blog generates a so called "rss-feed". A stripped down version of a web page, often with text only. You can read blogs, and most online newspapers, with an RSS reader in stead of surfing directly to each blog you read. For reading blogs and news from rss-feeds, I use NewsFire. When I write a new entry in iBlog and publish it on my website, everyone with a RSS-reader can subscribe to my blog, and new entries I write will appear as unread news, as a new mail would appear in your mail application."In a world heaving under the weight of billions of web pages, keeping up to date with the information you want can be a drag. Wouldn't it be better to have the latest news and features delivered directly to you, rather than clicking from site to site? Well now you can, thanks to a very clever service, RSS. There is some discussion as to what RSS stands for, but the majority plump for 'Really Simple Syndication'. Put plainly, it allows you to identify the content you like and have it delivered directly to you. It takes the hassle out of staying up-to-date, by showing you the very latest information that you are interested in. Not all websites currently provide RSS, but it is growing rapidly in popularity and many others, including the Guardian, New York Times and CNN do provide it". (from BBC's webpage) Here is what my RSS-reader look like. All the violet and green numbers indicate unread articles from news and blogs.A couple of RSS ReadersWindows- FeedReader - Newsgator - Newscrawler Mac OS X- NetNewsWire - NewsFire - NewsMac Web browsers with built-in RSS readersWindows- FireFox - Opera Mac OS X- Safari - Opera More RSS/Blog software......@ Google

The name Squareship3000 are supposed to bring thoughts back to early 1980s games when every game should be called something with x-thousand suffix to be considered cool. And now as we are post-milennium, and the year 2000 has become the past, it may seem rather daft?
The target group probably are in their late twenties to late thirties. They are in creative professions and preferably use a mac both at work and at home, but are litterate on both platforms. The target group for this game is people who enjoys the simple estetique in early videogames, like asteroids and pong. They may not have much time to play lengthy strategy- og 3rd person shooting-games. They will play for a couple of minutes when waiting on hold for their internet-support to pick up the phone. It's a retrothing. Small kids aged about 4 may also find level 1 amusing if it goes on for ever and the difficulty level doesn't increase much. But they will not be able to take part in the ironic undertone, ofcourse. I have collected some visual samples of things that inspired this game, story and user-group. The plus-shaped cross, the square and the circle are very basic and simple elements that has been used in games for ages, from the ancient game GO to the newest Playstation. Other elements are stupidity and humour. The pointless caution-sign (this is actually a quite pointless game, so why not underline just that but maybe not in so many words?) The classic PacMan, Pong and Asteroids are of course mandatory knowledge for this user-group. As the levels escalate in this game, the difficulty is increasing to an nearly impossible level, hence the volleyball-guys (impossible difficult + fun).

Squareship3000 casts you in the role of an intergalactic traveler, lost in space. Encased in your square spaceshuttle, oxygenlevels are running dangerously low when you suddenly find a FOB (Floating Oxygene Bubblefield) in a distant corner of the universe.
You are saved! All you have to do now is to collect bubbles of oxygene before the time runs out and you will survive! But there are dangers, as the FOB also are home to an unfriendly alien Crosshunter. You have to stay clear of the evil Crosshunter that follows every move you make. And as you race against the clock and collect the desperately needed oxygen bubbles, something strange happens... a phenomenon never seen before - as you collect the oxygene it is generated small buncing black holes that you have to avoid. The situation seem hopeless as more black holes are generated the more oxygene you collect! Luckily your Squareship3000 includes a 3-layer defence-shield mechanism that comes in handy when you are under attack. But the 3-layer DSM will loose one layer each time you are hit by the Crosshunter or a moving black hole and after the third layer is gone any hit would be fatal... Will you be able to collect enough oxygene to make it back to the nearest cosmofederal intergalactic servicestation? Only exeptional skills as a pilot on the Squareship3000 can get you out of this impossible situation...

Study old classic computergames (like Pong, Pacman, Asteroids or Defender) or handheld puzzle games (on gameboy/Nintendo DS/PSP ) for inspiration and wisdom. Look at the details and quality of the interaction when you play it for a longer period. Choose one game and analyse the gamerules and interaction in detail. Write a summary, maximum one A4-page.
Alle brikkene over faller da ned tilsvarende mange nivåer som man fyller opp helt.
