Views on the process so far.

-More dialogue about taste. Tn a restaurant they may be more likely to ask for the taste of what you would like to eat. And they may suggest starter, wines and dessert according to your choice of main course. Taste preferences could be salt, sweet, juicy, dry, grilled, fruity etc.. or pork, fish, salmon, cod, tout, duck, chicken, steak etc.

- Clearer sender. FIVH? WHO? The Panic button is not that relevant? The goal seem to be that people should plan ahead, so why the panic button?

- What type of person should the dialogue be based on? Should it be based on a person? We talked about politeness and coaching (butler + personal coach at the gym). A popular "food-person" is Jamie Oliver, and he is not exactly a butler, nor a personal coach, but he hits a lot of different people. People tend to respond positive to someone with a few quirks. A dialogue may become more human with than without quirks. A polite "food-person" would be the Swedish TV-cook Tina Nordström, who also are widely liked, but may be a bit to nice? Daniel likes her. I don't :-)

- Maybe tie the dialogue to a concrete person? With pictures and introduction? Daniel think there is more freedom in writing the dialogue in text only. Then users can use their own imagination. I agree.

- The dialogue structure will be card-based (like in old Hypercard, or Apple Media Tool) and written in Processing.

An artificial intelligence robotic reader reads each recipe and based on tastes of the ingredients and the types of cooking procedures, predicts how a food will look, taste, and smell."

A rough sketch for the flow of the dialogues. The sender of this service may be an organisation or government who's goal is to increase the level of consciousness about ecological awareness in society. In this case specified to what the single person/family can contribute - buying local food, that hasn't been transported around the globe. Also a health perspective (healthy food = healthy people = better use of social/society recourses = ecology).

The user profile should ease the access for returning users. It contain the details you have entered earlier, and wouldn't have to bother with profiling the user every time. She/he can specify his/her goal with the use of this service - be it economical-, health- or ecological/enviromental goals. when used, the database knows what season of the year it is, and what location the user live in, and could then suggest meals according to availability of groceries and local good.

I imagine this could be a sound future-service, combined with on-line fridges and food with RFID-tags. Then you could link your profile directly to your fridge and it instantly knows what you have in stock, and the "panic" button flowchart path would be even shorter :-) (PANIC!-> "ok, do this:")

That was the grand vision of the full featured version.... i guess I will make a smaller version to begin with :-)


The dialogue and language have to be able to motivate the user to contiue with this. The user may have an above average level of concern about the environment or his/her health. Hi/She have access to internet, and is willing to make an effort. Probably higher education.

The language should not be snobbish or posh. This should be as a blend between the personal trainer at the gym, and a butler. Allways polite, informative but not dull, not to much small talk, and not to pushy. The main goal is to educate and motivate. The dialogue in practice will be done by multiple choice questions/options, not by language-recognition A.I. It would be nice to have some option in changing the pace according to what situation you are in as you use the service (are in a hurry, or want to use more time).

Brainstorm for my project

- Continue on the craftsmancentral-project.
- The Computer Computer Helper
- Recipe advices (food mentor)
- Home services central (gardening, cleaning, childcare, car-wash etc.)

Hm.. I think I'll go for the "Food Mentor". This will be as a dialogue with an experienced chef that talks a language that normal people can understand. Suggests dishes from the ingredients you say you have at home, or based on your level of cooking-skills or for a special occasion. It may also help you plan a whole weeks dinners.

Some of the callenges:

1. how to balance/combine the use of prescripted storytelling techniques (multiple choice) and artificial intelligence (logic, memory and algorithms.)
2. balance the number of choices
3. what mediatypes/senses to use
4. how concrete/abstract

(book: "The Paradox of Choice", good personal reading, not that relevant in this project)

interest: vanskeligere - ofte må man trenge igjennom mye skepsis. kan man bedøve skepsisen ltt til å komme igjennom?
