| These thin shims clip over the pads and are supposed to reduce brake squeal. I've never been able to decide whether they really work or not, but I use them because, well, because you're supposed to use them. According to the manual, the shim goes only on the outside pad. | |
| This style of caliper pivots at the bottom. To insert the pads, you push the caliper over to one side and slide the appropriate pad into the open side; then push the caliper the other way and slide in the other pad. | |
| It's easy to know which pad goes where. When you push the caliper to one side, it creates a tapered space. You fit the pad in so the taper matches. | |
| Here's how the caliper looks with both pads installed. | |
| These clips hold the pads in place. The two clips are mirror images of each other, so you have to get the correct ones on the left and right sides. Which is which? There's a tab at the top of the clip, and a matching notch on the top of the caliper. That means the left-side clip only fits the left-side caliper, and likewise for the right. | |
| Cotter pins slide through the ends of the clip to hold it in place. I find it works better to do the bottom end first. Once I bend the cotter pins to lock them in, the job is done! |
