Caliper before cleaning
My left front brake caliper had developed quite a thirst for fluid, and I was getting tired of having to top up the brake reservoir every time I wanted to go for a drive. Fortunately, the caliper comes off easily. Yuck, what a mess!

Old and new seals
I had been lucky enough to get a kit of new seals (right) from Cordel Foreign Motors. The original seals (left front) had pretty much melted. The piston is at left rear.

Pitted Piston - I
Ick, look at all the pitting on the piston! I was able to clean up the worst surface corrosion with emery paper, but these pits actually were etched into the surface.

Pitted piston - II
However, Chip Lamb of West of Sweden had said they sometimes can go a long way like this, and I didn't have a spare, so I had no choice but to put it back in. (Later I did get a new piston from Motor Sport Service.)

Cylinder
I took this close-up photo of the cylinder to record its part number. Its internal bore was clean and unscratched, so was able to reuse it after a cleanup.
