A First Glance Here are some photos of my first few weeks in Kandahar, Afghanistan -- mostly from the Zhari Dasht IDP camp where I work.

Boys waiting for school. Images in blue... Too young for school but there nonetheless. Just got his first ever school exercise book (and not quite sure what to do with it!) Shy but ready to take on the school year. Don't worry, he broke out in a huge broad smile immediately afterwards! First day in school. Holding daddy's hand makes the foreigner with the camera not so scary. Eyeliner is common amongst Afghan men -- and boys, it would seem. A bit too old for this school, but still curious. "What's this for again?!" School's not so bad after all. Fathers watching their children file into the school. Smiles instead of war....
