Recent Book w/Columbia University Press/EPIC

"From Heads of Households to Heads of State: The Pre-Accession Households of Mary and Elizabeth Tudor, 1516-1558"

The book argues that Mary and Elizabeth did not succeed to the English throne simply because there were no male heirs. Budgetary accounts, records of entertainment, numbers of important visitors, and political use of staff and retainers show how Mary and Elizabeth established themselves as credible authority figures before their accessions.
