  | The Process: Examine the characteristics of Julius Caesar. Assume that Caesar is no longer fit to rule Rome. Write a composition which agrees that Caesar must be unseated and which details Caesar's ambition to be king, his strengths and his weaknesses. Examine the political conditions which obtained in Rome at the time of Caesar's assassination. Determine, given the political system then current in Rome, whether or not assassination was the only method of changing leaders. If you argue for assassination, you must cite reasons why assassination is the only alternative. If you argue against assassination, you must argue that alternatives to assassination exist and cite those alternatives.

How You Will Be Graded: Read your composition. Your composition should: be written in the present tense; begin with a strong thesis statement which tells the reader that (a) you are a member of a conspiracy to unseat Julius Caesar as Dictator for Life, (b) that assassination has been put forward as the method of unseating him, and (c) that you are either for or against the idea of assassination; supply reasons why Caesar is unfit including his physical weaknesses, his lack of decisiveness, and his ambition to become king; provide details of the political system in Rome with emphasis on whether or not an election in the senate is possible as a method of replacing Caesar; end with a strong closing statement repeating your support or disagreement with the idea of assassination, indicating either that assassination is the only method of unseating Caesar or that alternative, less violent mentods are possible; follow the standard conventions of English regarding spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
