  | 4. KINDS OF SENTENCES: There are four kinds of sentences.
• Definition: a declarative sentence makes a statement. Example: The Prince and the Pauper is a classic about Prince Edward of England changing places with a poor boy.
• Definition: an interrogative sentence asks a question. Example: Are you going to be a cheerleader, Pat?
• Definition: an imperative sentence gives a command or makes a request. You is understood to be the subject of the sentence, even though it does not appear. Examples: Do not run in the halls. (a command) Please hand in your homework. (a request)
• Definition: An exclamatory sentence expresses strong feeling. Example: I hate to eat raw oysters!
