Working Notes : Authenticity

We accept that there is no particular truth that has a singular validity above all others. Whether its physics or God, it's the utility of a theory or model that determines to what extent we will believe in it. Striving for truth in this sense means trying to understand and predict more accurately.

There's a different sense of truth that I think of as the search for authenticity. Personal growth requires a clear view of one's self. Interacting with the world honestly and openly should provide a clearer and more transparent interaction with the complex systems that we live in.

Acting like who you are, acting consistently with your beliefs should provide the best possible interaction with social and family systems. Deceit and lies might provide temporary gains, but in the long term should interfere with functioning of the system.

I think of this clarity as authenticity. It is similar to shedding ego. It requires seeing clearly both within oneself and outside.
