John Gruber is my hero

He takes the *time* to do it right

For those that don't know, John Gruber writes, produces and directs Daring Fireball. I've had a link to his site in my sidebar for quite a while and I'm pretty sure I've called out specific articles on his site before. He writes very well and, he does research. I, on the other hand, write mostly off the top of my head and I am very lazy about research. Don't get me wrong, I watch what I say and I try not to mislead my vast public. But, let's face it, most of the stuff I post here falls into a narrow range of categories: Personal anecdotes, found internet amusements, and fluff (which is sometimes both!). I occasionally write something that is a bit more indepth, but it's rare.

So, the other day when I read about Tim Bray recently wrote about Unswitching I started jotting down notes about how I felt about this. I have heard about Mr. Bray (aside: it seems odd to call him "Mr. Bray" because, while I don't know him, the internet has made it much easier to call people by their full names rather than use formal titles. For all I know, I should be addressing him as "Dr. Bray".) for a number of years. He helped write XML and writes well. As a result, he's one of those people about whom you hear things occasionally from some of the sites I consider mainstream, geek media (slashdot, kuro5hin, kottke, etc.).

So, while I'm thinking about what Tim had to say (and contrasting it with my experience with trying out FireFox (which no one seems to have read)). John Gruber goes out and writes an excellent piece on not only Tim Bray's post, but also contrasting it with a recent article by Paul Graham called Return of the Mac!

Go read John Gruber's Point, Counterpoint!

BTW- I either think/write too slow because this isn't the first time this has happened to me. I guess I allow others to write better than me too easily.
