OK. It happened like this...
We went off to Sea Ranch on
vacation. While we were there, we got to see open space and enjoy it. We got to
have a more open house that had a view. We also decided that we needed to move
out of our house in Palo Alto to capture more of what we were getting up there.
We talked about having me move to another job and we started talking about other
towns/cities. We decided that we needed to be near some water (read: ocean) so
places like Kansas were out. We've played around with the idea of moving to
Austin, but places like Seattle, Portland, etc. seemed more appealing. The
prospect of leaving my job didn't really appeal to me, but I'm willing to do
that if we could find the right location...
So, when we got home I
started looking at jobs and houses. Jobs are tricky. I want to continue working
with Macs, so it limits things a bit. Houses are easier. I know about
mlslistings.
:-)
After tweaking things a bit, I found that if you want to buy a
decent sized family house on more than 1/2 acre in the south bay (for under
$1,000,000), you're gonna end up in Gilroy, Morgan hill San Martin, Los Gatos
(mountains) or Santa Cruz..
Hmmm. I lived in
Scotts
Valley in the mid seventies and I attended
UCSC, plus my sister
lives in Santa Cruz. The
Commute isn't *awful* Wouldn't hurt to
look....
A Bunch of homes Ok. We need some
sunshine, so Bolder Creek, Felton, Ben Lomond are out...
We need some space
in the house so anything
below 2,000 square feet is out. (There doesn't
seem to be an html entity for the squarefoot symbol!)
Watsonville is kinda
far ...
Price can't be too high... (We're
not buying
this,
this, or
this!)
Sharp eyes and a lot of scanning...
Hmmm. How's
this?
Very nice indeed... OK, so we
go up and look at it. All four of us. There are three horses that currently live
there, the place is sunny, has all the rooms we are looking for (although not
*exactly* the right configuration or size.
I'll get to the point. We
put a bid in on the house and now we're in Escrow!
