Mosquito Magnet Liberty Plus - Thumbs Up from Me

We had 10.8 inches of rain in May. Three times the normal rain fall for May. We had another 1.78 inches the other day. We have had a very wet Spring. One thing that really likes the rain - mosquitos. We had mosquitos like you wouldn't believe. We had mosquitos in numbers the likes of which I have only seen hiking in high Uinta Mountains or in the Cascads when a hatch is on. They are thick and the peak of the mosquito season hasn't really started yet. So we bought a Mosquito Magnet Liberty Plus . It was a chunk of change but it has given us our backyard back.

This is a panorama of our backyard (400kb file - so if you are on dial-up and looking for instant gratification, this is not the file for you). Here it is . We have a big backyard. In this backyard, we have what we call the "woodland corner". It was the "weed-land corner" when we bought the house two years ago. We have put in a lot of new plants and a lot of work renovating the backyard. We would like to enjoy this space now it is Summer. We do not want to hand this space over to a bunch of blood sucking little fiends.

The woodland corner has a couple of paths that Ena and I like to walk along to see how the new plants are doing and to check out what has come up. Unfortunately, we were being chased out of this corner by mosquitos. We couldn't walk through here even at a fast pace without hordes of the little bastards attacking us and driving us back into the house. Even with long sleeves and long pants and bug spray, it was very unpleasant - all those mosquitos hovering an inch away looking the dime sized spot that you missed. I was good for about a bite every 30 seconds - two minutes out back, four bites.

We have spent a lot of time and effort planting bulbs and bushes and ferns and other goodies back here. We have cool things that just pop up like the little fungus with the weird seed like things inside the cup. They are in the bottom picture. You can see wood chips next to them. Each cup is smaller than a dime.

We couldn't enjoy the woodland walks. We couldn't sit outside on the porch for five minutes after work. We decided that we would risk $700 and we bought a Mosquito Magnet about 3 weeks ago. I am thrilled to say, "the thing really works".

I was outback working in shorts and a tee-shirt for an hour this evening without bug spray on (100% DEET is recommended in these parts). I didn't have any trouble with mosquitos until I went into the back corner. This would have been unheard of a month ago. I can't tell you how thrilled I am that I can now go outside without 10 minutes of preparation (long pants, long sleeved shirt, bug spray everywhere). We have our backyard back. Thank you Mosquito Magnet. Keep up the good work.
