Mini Vacation - Door County the Prequel

Our first mini vacation of the year was supposed to be a longer vacation but there was lots of rain. We ended taking a short trip up to Door County in late May. Door County sits on a peninsula between Lake Michigan and Green Bay - the bay that Green Bay is named for. It is known for cherry orchards, art galleries, fish boils, boating and tourism. It is a hot tourist destination. Fortunately, we came the week before things heated up and we had a lot of the peninsula to ourselves.

We stayed one night in a Best Western and then two nights in the Inn on Maple - a bed and breakfast in Sister Bay. We had the B&B to ourselves which was lovely. The hosts, Bill and Louise were very nice and breakfast was great. We walked around towns, shopped in galleries and hiked in White Fish Dunes State Park and Peninsula State Park. It was a bit gray and drizzly on the last day, so we did art galleries and shops on the way down the peninsula.

One thing I discovered along the way. Ena was driving and I was playing DJ spinning tunes off my iPod to our car stereo (we use an iTrip with mixed results). We had a great drive in a light rain with me making up a mix as we went along. We we got home, I remember the mix and wanted to capture it. The iPod keeps a recently played list so I found the Rainy Drive section and copied it to a play list and then burned a CD. It was very slick and easy.

Another funny thing from the trip. Ena and I both spent a lot time near an ocean. Ena lived in Boston for years and I lived in Palo Alto, CA for years. We both lived in Oregon, 45 minutes from the Pacific, for years. It was strange to by this large body of water (lake Michigan) watching the waves and the mist and to not have it smell like the salt air of the ocean. I never did really get over the thought that the next breath will smell like salt air.
