Two friends go separate ways - for a while


I just found out that two dear friends, who have been together for six years, are separating - for a while, maybe forever. I'm really stunned by the news. They seemed to fit so perfectly together. They are the one of strongest ties we had back to life back in Oregon. We called them to share news about life in Madison and to hear about life in Oregon. They were, in many ways, our proxy back in our circle of friends in Oregon. They were the first to come and stay with us in our new house.

Flyfishing with Jeff


We just returned from a week on Lockhart Island in Burntside Lake out side Ely Minnesota (the Far North). It was great fun and it was very ..... I don't know what to call it.... important? connecting? - to fly fish with Jeff again. I'm not sure how to express it but maybe you'll understand as I write more.

What is it about fish and rain?


I spent 5 days on an island in Burntside Lake just outside of Ely, Minnesota with my brother and sister and their spouses and kids. Laura's family (my sister in law) have an island in the lake that has been passed down for generations. It was a wonderful trip. It seemed like every time we went outside to fly fish on this trip it would start to rain. When we came back to the cabin, it would stop.
