The Sex Lives of Cannibals - Adrift in the Equatorial Pacific by J. Maarten Troost

In Sex Lives of Cannibals, J. Maarten Troost tells his real life tale of moving to a tiny atoll in the equatorial Pacific. Troost was a slacker who comments that "job offers were not coming probably because applications were never sent." He heads to Cuba on credit cards because it seems like the thing to do after college and then discovers that creditors want to be paid and are rather adamant about getting their payments.

The Winter Queen by Boris Akunin

The Winter Queen is a very fun mystery set in Russia in the 1870s. This is the first translation of Boris Akunin's work and I can hardly wait for the rest. The work was translated by Andrew Bromfield. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes mysteries or anyone who is interested in good look at 19th century Russian culture.

The Eyre Affair - too clever, too shallow, too mediocre - IMHO

I finished the Eyre Affair but just barely. It was "The Truth About Cats and Dogs". I don't remember where the quote came from but some one was talking about "The Truth About Cats and Dogs". They said that it was the perfect borderline film - any worse and you wouldn't watch but not good enough to be actually good. The Eyre Affair is a border line book.

Eastern Standard Tribe - Fun but not Cory Doctorow's best

I finished reading the electronic version of Eastern Standard Tribe on a trip recently. It was a fun read and filled the time nicely. Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom is a better book which is exciting since Eastern Standard Tribe is Doctorow's first novel. Hope he keeps improving.

Down and Out in the Magic Kindom - Fun Sci Fi

I just finished Cory Doctorow's Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom.

Down and Out In the Magic Kingdom is fun look into the future when "everything" has come true.... Cory takes an interesting spin through this future where social status and wealth isn't controlled by money but by popular opinion (whuffy - think of it as your google rating). This was a fun read and Cory has made the book available via a Creative Commons license.
