Haven't blogged here for quite a while

I've been busy with my work blog, setting a blog for my boss and demonstrating the integration work that I did for my work blog. That has kept me very busy. I was also traveling to Arlington VA for the Spring Member meeting of Internet2.

I have come to really like WordPress. There are lots of themes and plugins. Since it is PHP and MySQL, you can edit and tweak and do all kinds of cool stuff. If you want to an example, go to my work blog (http://arch.doit.wisc.edu/jim/ ) and click on the "Internet2" tag in the Sidebar. What you will see is a listing of my posts with the tag "Internet2" followed by a list of my del.icio.us URLs that have the tag "Internet2" followed by thumbnails of the pictures on Flickr with the tag "Internet2".

I gave demonstrations of these technologies (Technorati, del.icio.us and Flickr) and of my blog to various folks at the Ineternet2 Spring Member meeting. It was a big hit and stirred up folks who are requesting my plugins and documentation so they can set up a blog like it.

This has kept me very tied up. Also, we had one of the IT Architects leave for another job in town. Scott Fullerton (co-worker and friend) left about a month ago (maybe two months ago now) to go to work at Great Lakes Higher Ed. It was a great opportunity for him but it did leave us short handed. There were 3 IT Architects at DoIT... now there are two. I've had to pick up a lot of his work.

Anyway... back to WordPress. I'm so impressed that I am seriously considering signing up for hosting with Dreamhosts so that I can run WordPress for my home blog too. I love being able to post from a browser from any machine. I love all the tweaking that you can do and all of the plugins. I love the community of support and documentation (just google on WordPress and see everything that pops up). I'm very tempted to move to another blog application even though I rather like the small tight-knit family of iBloggers.
