Home Computer for 2004 as predicted in 1954

This picture was published in our weekly news letter. Click on the small image to get a full size picture so you can read the caption. What I want to know is, what are the two big steering wheels for? At least it runs Fortran - I used to program in Fortran - using punch cards. UPDATE: Turns out this is a hoax.

This is one of those areas where predictions were completely wrong. I remember seeing some old predictions about computers where they proudly announced that "one day computers will be as big as whole city blocks". They never saw the miniaturization movement coming.

This doesn't change the fact that I did program in Fortran on punch cards. Actually, I remember entering programs on a teletype. Mostly I remember playing Star Trek against the computer using a teletype - sitting and waiting seconds for a response to come back after every command. I also remember playing Lunar Lander - I was happy when I got an HP Calculator that could run Lunar Lander later on.
