Soapbox moving

Paul over at the Blue Blogging Soapbox has moved his affiliation from the Blogging Tories to the Blogging Alliance of Non Partisan Canadians. It's a bit of a shock to see him in the company of James Laxer and Eugene Plawiuk, among many others of widely varying perspectives.

Paul's not changing his politics. Just "feeling the need to speak more freely on some issues."

Paul's also blogs at The Torch, has another listing on the Canadian Blog Exchange and is the founder of We Speak, where I'm listed as well. And he manages several other local blogging sites.

Back at the first of the year Paul drew the attention of his readers to the blog of Windsor Star reporter Doug Schmidt, who is in Afghanistan covering the Canadian mission. I've been reading Outside the Wire ever since.

In today's Star Schmidt has a feature story on page one, Courage in Kandahar: Local troops proud of mission.

They were ambushed, mortared, rocketed and shot at too many times to count.

They were targeted repeatedly by suicide bombers. They saw comrades die and mates shipped home with life-altering injuries. They witnessed grinding poverty for the first time in their young lives.

For six months, they ate dust.

But they'd come back in a flash, and many of the dozens of Afghan mission veterans from the Windsor area are promising to return.

Schmidt is also a photographer.
