Two Photo Blogs


Dave sent me one of those viral emails this morning, almost entirely of recipient headers, dozens of names nested five levels deep. Although the subject was Windsor Back Then the only content I could see was two comments: "I think Bill was driving that yellow SW&A bus? Enjoy." and "These sure bring back a lot of memories..."

Then I noticed there was an attachment, a Power Point slideshow, software I don't have, but viewable in a competing app which I own but never use. So I adjusted the file to open in Keynote and watched a series of photos from past decades.

Several of the pictures reminded me of a conversation last Wednesday evening at the bloggers meet. They were of the old tracks and streetcars of the Sandwich, Windsor and Amherstburg Railway, which long ago morphed into the Transit Windsor bus company.









Each pic was credited to InternationalMetropolis.com. That's Andrew's blog. And at the meet Andrew and Mark had been discussing the merits of rails vs wheels for public transportation.

I gave Dave a call and told him where the photos came from. And then I made another pot of coffee and sat down to enjoy some of Andrew's award winning blogging, under the category Old Photographs.

Some of the pictures did indeed bring back memories. Others, from before my time, sparked google inquiries. I learned that the SW&A built Canada's first all electric transit system, starting in 1886. It's a shame that's all disappeared.

One of the many other conversations at the blogger's meet was about urban exploration, especially of deserted and neglected buildings. I mentioned how impressed I was by the photos at a local blog called Belle River Nation.
