HousecleaningStrangers and new friends
I gave notice to my landlord recently that I am
moving by the end of October. Soon after a rental agent showed up and politely
asked permission to show the premises to a prospective client.
"Sure," I said, "Come on in." As the prospect took a quick look around so did I. Some dusting and vacuuming was clearly overdue. And when was the last time I washed the kitchen and bathroom floors? At least I had made my bed that morning. The agent knew his business. He steered his client out on to the balcony and talked up the view. As they stepped back inside they smiled at me as they made their way through the various piles of books and magazines on the floor and exited out the door. The next day the agent returned with another seeker of affordable housing. I may be slow but by now the message was clear: for the next few weeks my housekeeping skills, or lack thereof, are on display. Time to make the place more presentable. This blog has also recently come under increased surveillance. John at Counago & Spaves made a few kind remarks and let his readers know about my existence. This led to Will at A General Theory of Rubbish pointing in my direction. Will also recommended To the Tooting Station and now so do I, and thank the author for adding me to his blog roll. I don't feel like I'm in the same league as these writers but I appreciate their encouragement. I've been neglecting my own blog roll and so today I did a little virtual housecleaning. I removed some inactive links and added, along with the new discoveries, some links to blogs and sites I've admired for quite some time and should have acknowledged long ago.
